Burma and our Campaign
Burma is a country in Southeast Asia that is ruled by a brutal military dictatorship, led by Senior General Than Shwe. Than Shwe’s regime is among the worst governments in the world, perpetrating grave human rights abuses against their own people, denying timely humanitarian aid, and impoverishing the whole country while enriching themselves.
The biggest supporter of Than Shwe’s regime is neighboring China. China is also host of the 2008 Olympics, which are supposed to stand for human dignity, brotherhood, and peace.
8-8-08 for Burma calls on China to use its unique leverage to help save lives and build freedom in Burma, and thereby honor the spirit and principles of the Olympics. We offer people - activists, opinion-makers and athletes - the tools to make their voices heard to China and the whole international community.
